This picture was taken early in 1960 from the top of an aerial mast looking to the east of the island and the Gan Channel.  The static water tank in the lower left of the picture was close to Station Headquarters.  In the distance can be seen the aircraft Pan and the islands Power Station building.  The Astra cinema as it exists today was still to be built, as were many other buildings that would eventually be located at this end of the island.  In 1960 the “Astra” cinema was housed in a temporary building made completely of corrugated iron sheets.
